
The development of the Sober College curriculum came about after years of extensive research, consultation with experts in the treatment of young adults, but most importantly, through numerous conversations and hours spent with young adults and specifically newly sober young adults.
“I started using when I was 15. Now that I am 22, I missed out on that whole period of learning about getting my own apartment, finding a job, cooking meals, basically, the concept of taking care of myself independently.”
Sobriety will always be the first priority for Sober College participants. In addition to maintaining a healthy recovery lifestyle, Sober College provides the opportunity to excel in other areas and develop core competencies in five specific areas. Achievement in these five core competencies will give a young adult the best opportunity for long term success.
The Five Core Competencies or Areas of Achievement:
- Sobriety - based on 12-Step Principles;
- Life Skills - ability to manage stress and daily challenges;
- Career - advancement in employment and/or education;
- Emotional Well-Being - based on research of a Harvard University professor;
- Fitness - incorporates physical and mental fitness;
